series 2 - historical somerset
In the History of Somerset and Berkley presentations, and on the Somerset field trip, we discussed and saw evidence including landmarks, buildings, tombstones, or other remains that share Somerset's past.
What do your photos share about the history of Somerset/Berkley?
- My photos document the different historical and significant places in the town, grave sites of former residents, and the beauty of the scenery in Somerset.
Who or what are some of the people, industries, places or events that have transformed Somerset or Berkley through the years?
How are they "visible" or documented in your photos?
- One individual who had an impact on the town was Patience Brayton. I photographed her grave site, which is one of the prettiest Ive seen.
- Another individual that I chose to document was Jonathan Bowers.
Discuss 2 or more of your photos, explaining how you composed the photographs to communicate a specific aspect of the history of the town. (What is your photo of? Where were you? How did you compose your shot?
- My photo of the broken gravestone represents the lost residents of Somerset. Those who we have forgotten or those who were never documented but had an impact on the town nonetheless. I chose to take the shot down low so as to capture the texture of the breaks in the stone.
- My image of Patience Brayton's gravestone was taken in a way that one would look at it if they were there to pay a visit. I chose to photograph her because of her significance to the town.
